About Leitner Method

Leitner Method is a practical resource for anyone who wants to use the Leitner box system for spaced repetition study. Not affiliated with any university, institution, or the Sebastian Leitner estate.

Why This Site Exists

The Leitner system is one of the most effective study methods ever documented. It’s simple, cheap, and backed by decades of research on the spacing effect. And yet most people who hear about it never actually set one up and stick with it.

The guides, templates, and tools on this site exist to close that gap. The goal is to make the Leitner system as easy to start as possible — and to help you keep it running when life gets in the way.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Guides — Practical articles on setting up the system, writing good flashcards, troubleshooting common problems, and applying the Leitner method to specific subjects.
  • Free Downloads — Printable schedules, box labels, checklists, and routine cards. All one-page, US Letter format. No email required.
  • Leitner OS Dashboard — A Google Sheet that tracks your cards, shows what’s due, and flags problem cards. A paid tool, priced to be accessible.

What This Site Is Not

This is not an academic resource. We don’t publish original research. We don’t make specific learning outcome guarantees (results depend on consistent use and individual factors). We’re not affiliated with any institution.

We also don’t cover every study method under the sun. The focus here is the Leitner box method specifically — practical, printable, no-app required.

A Note on the Name

The Leitner system was developed by Sebastian Leitner, a German science journalist, and described in his book So lernt man lernen (published in the 1970s). “Leitner Method” is used here as a descriptive term for the educational content on this site. We are not affiliated with Sebastian Leitner, his estate, or any commercial entity associated with his work.
