The Leitner study method requires 10–20 minutes daily. Review Box 1 every day, plus whichever higher-numbered boxes are scheduled. Move correct cards forward, wrong cards back to Box 1. Add a maximum of 10 new cards per day.
The Daily Routine Step by Step
Check your schedule, set a 20-minute timer, review Box 1 first, then scheduled boxes. For each card: read, recall, flip. Correct: next box. Wrong or slow: Box 1. Stop at 20 minutes even if you’re not done.
How Long Should a Session Take?
10–20 minutes is the target. If sessions regularly exceed 30 minutes, Box 1 has too many cards — pause new additions until it drains. The Daily Review Routine Card gives you a timed checklist to follow.
When to Add New Cards
After your review session, not before. This keeps your session focused on what’s due rather than tempting you to review new cards instead of due ones. Maximum 10 new per day. See the full Leitner System guide for daily routine guidance.
