Missing one day in your Leitner system is fine — just resume normally the next day. Your cards will still be there. If you missed several days and Box 1 is large, spend two days clearing Box 1 before resuming your normal schedule. Don’t try to catch up all at once.
Missed One Day
Resume your normal review. Box 1 may have a few extra cards that are now also one day overdue — review them as normal. Don’t add new cards today if Box 1 is noticeably larger than usual. See the Leitner System guide for schedule management.
Missed 3–7 Days
Box 1 may have grown significantly. Before resuming normal reviews, spend 2–3 days focused on Box 1 only. Clear it to below 20 cards before reintroducing other boxes. Download the Daily Review Routine Card for a structured session format.
Missed 2+ Weeks
This is a significant backlog. Use the Backlog Rescue Plan: pause new cards, triage Box 1 (keep, retire, rewrite), drain at a capped daily rate, and reset. Don’t try to review everything in one session.
